Women’s Health Bundle

This course combines Perinatal Issues, Violence Prevention and Awareness, and Women’s Health Issues as you learn about the well-being of women, women’s rights, and empowerment.

Image of women

Certificate in Perinatal Issues:

The Certificate in Perinatal Issues is a multidisciplinary educational experience designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who provide care and support for childbearing women, newborns, and families. The demand for knowledgeable providers to meet the needs of this population is dramatically increasing; new jobs are being developed and new services created. Health professionals who work with this population will need continuing professional education to gain a broad understanding of this specialized area of care and to stay current with emerging trends.

Certificate in Violence Prevention and Awareness:

Every year across the globe, millions of individuals are affected by violence. Healthcare professionals are a first line of defense in recognizing the signs of violence and supporting violence prevention. In this certificate program, you’ll examine the various instances of violence that you may encounter in your work as a medical professional, including workplace violence, domestic violence, elder and child abuse, and pediatric abusive head trauma (also known as “shaken baby syndrome”). By the end of this course, you’ll have the information you need to respond to and help prevent these forms of violence.

Certificate in Women’s Health Issues:

Women represent over half of the global population. While women have a longer life expectancy than men in most every country, they don’t necessarily get to enjoy healthier lives. Millions of women suffer from health issues each year throughout the world—health issues that would not affect them if they were men. Women and their health issues have traditionally been neglected both nationally and globally. When women’s health concerns, women’s rights, and empowerment are made a priority, the result is immense improvements in the health and well-being of women and their children on a global scale.

Ten essential oil DIYs for healthy hair

From styling tools to monthly dye jobs, our hair takes a beating. If your locks are starting to look a little frazzled, there’s no need to get your hair in a knot. Use essential oils for hair to add shine and bounce to your locks, so you can have the gorgeous, healthy hair of your dreams! All you need for envy-worthy tresses are items you already have around the house, including essential oils, carrier oils, water, and a couple of other tools and ingredients.

What are you waiting for? Gather your supplies and try these hair DIYs to tame, moisturize, and clarify your mane.

DIY dry hair spritz

First up is our easy-peasy recipe for dry hair repair. If your hair is dull or naturally dry, spritz this treatment all over to lock in moisture without adding grease. Use this spray before blow-drying and styling to boost shine, after you style to finish your do, or throughout the day to control frizz and unruly flyaways.

The essential oils in this mix boost shine and nourish your hair, while jojoba and V-6™ penetrate locks for lasting and non-greasy healing moisture.

What you need:

How to make it:

  1. Add all ingredients to a 12-ounce glass spray bottle.
  2. Shake well before spritzing over wet hair, avoiding the roots. Or spray into your hands and rub over your hair to add moisture where you need it most.
  3. Dry and style hair as normal. If needed, lightly spritz hair after styling for extra shine.

Hot oil treatment

Sometimes your hair needs a little extra boost. Whether pool chemicals have sucked the life out of your locks or sunny weather has left you with an itchy scalp, give your hair a much-needed timeout. Show moisture-starved and brittle ends some love with this deep-conditioning treatment containing some of the best essential oils for hair.

What you need:

How to make it:

  1. Heat some water on the stove or in the microwave and pour into a large glass bowl.
  2. Put olive oil and sweet almond oil in a small jar, and place the jar in the bowl of hot water for 5-10 minutes until the oil is warm but not hot. Check the oil every 2 minutes until it is the right temperature. You should be able to put your finger in the oil comfortably.
YL tip: Be careful not to overheat the oil, which can burn you. We call it a hot oil treatment, but it should really be warm oil.
  3. Add essential oils and mix well.
  4. Apply to hair from roots to ends, massaging into scalp and saturating ends for hydration where you need it most. Comb through to ensure even application.
  5. Cover with a shower cap and leave on for at least 20 minutes.
  6. Wash hair—if it’s extra oily, wash twice.

Apple cider vinegar rinse

Supplement the conditioning benefits of our hot oil treatment with our clarifying apple cider vinegar rinse. If built-up product has left you in a hairy situation, use this recipe to help untangle the mess. After you rinse away the excess weight from dead skin cells, pool chemicals, saltwater, shampoo, and conditioner, you’ll notice more bounce and volume to your hair.

In addition to helping you nail the perfect hair flip, our apple cider vinegar rinse also soothes the scalp and adds luster to your locks.

What you need:

YL tip: For dry hair, use 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar; for normal to oily hair, use 1/2 cup.

How to make it:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in the spray bottle.
  2. Spray mixture all over hair, focusing on the scalp and roots. Lift hair in sections to make sure you completely saturate your hair—your hair should be thoroughly damp, but not dripping.
  3. Massage into scalp with fingertips to stimulate the scalp and increase circulation.
  4. Let the mixture sit for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Rinse, then shampoo and condition hair as normal.
  6. Use once per week.

Deep Relief Roll-On vs Cool Azul Pain Relief Cream

Got pain? I think we all do at some point. One thing that I find helpful for pain relief is Young Living’s Deep Relief Roll-On which is a blend of peppermint, wintergreen, dorado azul, and helichrysum essential oils in a convenient roll-on. This blend of popular oils is a great companion for your trips to the gym and busy daily routine. I use it for knee pain before and after a long beach walk. I love the cooling sensation and invigorating scent of peppermint and wintergreen essential oils. The roll-on packaging makes it easy to quickly apply Deep Relief when needed. I keep one with me in my purse at all times so I have it handy at work, home, and outdoors. If you’d like to hear a bit about the science of this blend, listen to what Lindsey Elmore says about the Deep Relief Roll-on.

A similar but different product I use is Young Living’s Cool Azul™ Pain Relief Cream. It provides cooling relief from minor muscle and joint aches, arthritis, strains, bruises, and sprains. I’ve rubbed it on my hands for joint pain, on my lower back and spine, and on my knee as well. This plant-based formula combines the power of Wintergreen essential oil with our exclusive Cool Azul essential oil blend. With two powerful, synergistic active ingredients, this cream provides pain-relieving benefits in two ways: methyl salicylate found in Wintergreen helps alleviate pain deep in the muscles and joints, and natural menthol found in Peppermint provides a cooling effect. If you need relief without synthetic ingredients, Young Living’s Cool Azul Pain Relief Cream is the answer! I keep this at home and take it on vacation because I don’t want to be without it.

Check out Lindsey Elmore’s Cool Azul video to learn more about the science behind Cool Azul.

If you’re interested, you can order these products from my website. Choose Retail to pay full price; or choose Wholesale to save 24% (requires a free membership).

Feel free to contact me for more information about Deep Relief Roll-on or Cool Azul or becoming a member. I’m here to help!

Until next time…

Cleaning without Toxins Guide

There’s no place like home—a clean home, that is. When you prepare for family and friends to visit and when you tidy up for yourself, we want you to be confident in the cleaning products you use.

Toxins in cleaning products

According to the American Lung Association, the ingredients in some household cleaning products can cause health problems like headaches, irritation of the eyes and throat, respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and maybe even cancer.

Some product may release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These gases come from paint, air fresheners, gasoline, tobacco smoke, wood-burning stoves, and a handful of household cleaners and disinfectants. Research shows that some VOCs can irritate eyes, nose, and throat; create difficulty breathing and nausea; and cause harm to the central nervous system and other organs.

Products that can include VOCs and toxic substances include:*

  • Aerosol sprays
  • Oven and appliance cleaners
  • Air fresheners
  • Dishwashing liquid and detergent
  • Carpet and upholstery cleaners
  • Bleach

*This is not a complete list.

How do you clean without toxic chemicals?

Avoiding harsh chemicals in your cleaning supplies starts with reading labels. Choose products that have few to no VOCs, fragrances, or irritants. Your best bet? Find natural cleaning products made with plant-based formulas.

Join the trend and start tidying up! Grab your cleaning products, check their labels, and get cleaning with only the best of the best!

What are the best natural cleaning products?

Making the switch to toxin-free cleaning products is easier than you think! Use household ingredients like baking soda and white vinegar with Young Living products to create cleaners you’re ready to use around tiny humans, cute creatures, and your favorite family members.

Since you know that checking your labels is vital to a safe, happy home, take a look at Thieves Household Cleaner. Both are natural, plant-based surfactants that provide excellent detergency and make Thieves Household Cleaner biodegradable.

Essential oils for natural cleaning

Jazz up any natural cleaning product with our not-so-secret secret ingredient: essential oils!

Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil

Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil

When cleaning, it’s best to start by tackling the most undesirable areas. Grab your bottle of Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil and head to the bathrooms and garbage cans. A few drops added to your cleaning solution or a soaked cotton ball stashed under your garbage bag will work wonders. Unwanted smells will be gone faster than you can get through your groovy cleaning playlist.

Citrus Fresh™ essential oil blend

You know we’re serious about cleaning with an oil when it’s included in our Thieves® Home Cleaning Kit. After you’ve added Citrus Fresh essential oil blend to your diffuser, sprayed it in every guest room, and added it to your floor cleaner and window cleaning solution, visitors will be begging to know the secret to your “Here comes the sun” scent.

Purification® essential oil blend

Purification essential oil blend

Combine some cleaning powerhouses and use Purification essential oil blend! It’s a mix of Citronella, Lavandin, LemongrassRosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree, so you know it means business. This EO blend will be your new sidekick as you get rid of lingering smells after game night, at-home workouts, and play dates.

Tea Tree essential oil

Use the champion of odor elimination the next time you get to scrubbing: Tea Tree essential oil! There’s a myriad of ways we recommend using it—to banish stale odors, as a linen spray and room air freshener, or combined with household cleaners. Our favorite? Revamp musty clothes left in the wash by adding Tea Tree to your laundry soap and restarting your cycle.

Lemon essential oil

After cleaning with harsh chemicals, you’ll be tempted to light a candle to cover the scent. Not if you clean with Thieves and Lemon essential oil! Add it to any spray bottle or cleaner and you’ll ditch your candles in no time! Bonus uses: When added to your dishwasher, Lemon delivers a spot-free rinse. When added to sticky residue, Lemon leaves behind a gummy-free surface.

YL tip: Most citrus oils like OrangeLime, and Grapefruit elevate your household cleaners. They’re fantastic at fighting grease and smell great doing it!

Lemongrass essential oil

Lemongrass essential oil

Like Lemon, Lemongrass essential oil works to brighten any area. However, it’s got another magic trick up its sleeve: Use it as an outdoor spray to clean outdoor furniture and areas. The sunshiney-smelling spray will be your go-to after swim days and BBQ nights.

Cinnamon Bark essential oil

Cinnamon Bark essential oil

Lean into the fall-inspired aroma you find in Thieves Household Cleaner when you use Cinnamon Bark essential oil. After you’ve channeled Julia Child and whipped up a masterpiece in the kitchen, add a drop or two of this nostalgic fragrance to a sink full of soapy dishes. This warm, comforting scent is the opposite of the bracing aroma you get from harsh chemicals.

Cleaning ideas to make your house shine

Which essential oil listed above are you most eager to add to your cleaning day? I like to add Purification to my laundry detergent when I wash my clothes.

Formatting Numbers with the General Format in Excel 2010

Notice in the example below that cells cells B2 through F2 are formatted as dates. You can verify the formatting of a cell by clicking the cell and looking at the Number Format box in the Number group on the Home tab in Excel. In the example, find the word Date in the Number Format box.

Cells B2 through F2 formatted with the Date format in Excel
Cells B2 through F2 formatted with the Date format in Excel

To change the format of the numbers (yes, dates are numbers to Excel), select cells B2 through F2; click the down arrow in the Number Format box and choose the desired format. To choose a number without any special formatting (no dollar sign or decimal places, for example), choose General as shown in the example below.

Choosing General Number Format in Excel

After formatting the numbers with the General format, your numbers will look like this:

Numbers formatted with the General format in Excel

Notice that the newly formatted numbers in cells B2 through F2 are right-aligned in each cell. Right alignment is the default format for numbers. Numbers formatted with the General format have no decimal places, commas, or dollar sign.
