My first day with Network Solutions and WordPress

Well, the other day I purchased a WordPress hosting package through Network Solutions (NS). I was contemplating whether I should use the free WordPress blog (wordpress.com), get the hosted WordPress package from NS, or purchase a Web site and blog through NS. I decided to go with the hosted WordPress (WP) package.

Good decision? I’m not sure. The first day I crashed WP by installing one of the templates. I contacted both WP and NS for help. WordPress.com told me I needed to contact WordPress.org…you think they could have forwarded the message to WordPress.org on my behalf. (There’s a learning curve involved here!) Anyway, NS suggested that I reinstall WP, which I had already done, but it didn’t work. It did work today though! So, here I am blogging about it.

I think I might prefer the hosting package with the blog combo. Does anybody have this package? With the Web site, I can have separate pages for the classes I teach at MiraCosta College and Education to Go. I’m thinking I’ll have more flexibility with the combo package because I can insert my own code. The truth is that I don’t know WordPress well enough to know if it’s enough for me. Comments about your experience with a hosted Web site/blog combo vs. a WordPress blog by itself would truly help!

Thanks,

Kathy

About Kathy

I love being involved in education because I am always learning something new and exciting. I have been teaching and helping students for over 25 years with computer applications and keyboarding classes. Before computers, I helped students learn how to use dedicated word processors. It was a long time ago! Currently, I work at MiraCosta College, a community college in California, where I teach computer applications for the Computer Applications Department and keyboarding classes for the Business Office Technology Department. I teach one- and two-day computer courses through Community Services, and work as an Instructional Assistant II for the Academic Information Services Department. I’ve been enjoying my jobs at MiraCosta for over 20 years! Prior to MiraCosta, I worked at Eldorado Business College teaching word processing and business courses. And, for about 15 years I’ve been teaching online courses (PowerPoint 2010, 2007, & 2003, and Keyboarding) through Education to Go, a division of Cengage Learning. I find teaching and learning online an awarding experience. I enjoy reading, learning, traveling, and spending time with my family. Kathy
